E-learning Translation

Educational and training processes play a huge part in global companies' corporate culture, not to mention purely educational platforms aimed at skills development. Learning is a complex cognitive process that works best when practiced in the native language of the audience. Therefore, translation and localization of e-learning content aim at eliminating socio-cultural barriers, thus increasing the efficiency of training.
When it comes to global education and training we always talk about localizing the content and adapting it to the socio-cultural environment of the target audience. Currencies, units of measurement, explanatory examples, taboo concepts, road signs, and many other concepts should be presented in the form accepted and practiced by the target audience. And it's not only about engagement but rather about the understanding and acceptance of the course's ideas and messages.
Each month Palex Group registers a heavy demand for online courses localization proving the fact that a lot of companies find it financially relevant to invest in global training of their employees and product/service users. Choosing the right partner in localization of your e-learning content gives you all sorts of advantages. Our clients trust us because of the priceless expertise that we have accumulated over 18 years of working in localization. Palex Group provides full-cycle localization services, no matter how complex your project is; we have all the necessary resources worldwide: translators, subject-matter experts, localization engineers, project managers, graphic designers, audio/video/3D editors, and voice talents.

E-learning localization engineering
01
Localization engineers are the most important people in online course localization, as e-learning content creation is a process involving various technological tools. There are dozens of e-learning content creation platforms such as Articulate, Storyline, Rise, Adobe Captivate and, Lectora, each with their own features and peculiarities, and our engineering team has worked on most of them. Moreover, each online course strives to show a unique approach in presenting the training material using animation, 3D modeling, video editing, voiceover, and other techniques. Our localization engineers have mastered a lot of complicated tools used in our clients' projects and accumulated vast expertise in dealing with almost every type of content. Our clients value our ability to work out the most efficient workflow involving all the tools used in the project.

Terminology and Glossaries
02
Each company has its own unique tone of address, stylistics, and company-specific terminology. The terminology used in the course should be consistent with the overall terminology used in the company. Therefore, we pay special attention to  glossary creation when it is necessary. We generate a termbase based on the project texts and approve it with the client. This termbase is then used by our translators to provide excellent consistency which contributes to greater quality and effectiveness of the course message.
Online Course Translation
03
We set a team of translators and editors that will be the most efficient in terms of anticipated results and budget. Our vendor pool is wide enough to provide any language for a reasonable price. Moreover, we have in-house SMEs and professional linguistic editors who work in  a thoroughly elaborated project workflow using state-of-the-art technology. Although CATs are widely used in the industry, being pro experts in all leading CAT instruments constitutes a huge advantage. Taking into account the capabilities of each tool on the market, we select the most efficient one according to project requirements. At the same time our localization engineering team is there to modify any file format sent by the client into the format used in the most efficient CAT-tool chosen for the project.
Localization
04
Each educational or training course aimed at a foreign audience needs localization to achieve the intended effectiveness and understanding. Sometimes, we need to recreate the content of the course to make it natural and legislatively compliant with the target country audience as in the case of driving training courses where traffic direction, road signs, and kinds of vehicles must be taken into account. This means that our engineers create new content in the tools used in the project following the client's requirements or project's characteristics. Moreover, our in-country SMEs test the course for its compliance with the cultural and administrative norms of the country.

E-learning Localization Levels
The purposes of an online course may be very different as well as localization budget; therefore, we elaborated a flexible approach to each project. Here are typical levels of online courses localization, which might as well be modified due to the client’s needs.

E-learning Localization Levels
Level One - Low Budget
The main goal in such projects is to translate the essentially important materials necessary for the target audience understanding.

Example:
  • Images and texts on images are left unlocalized instead translated elements may be found only in the main body text of the course.
  • The terms may be used in the source language.
  • Video and audio track are left unlocalized instead we create translated subtitles.

E-learning Localization Levels
Level Three - Full localization and cultural adaptation of the course
The main goal is to localize and recreate certain materials as though they were originally created in the target language for the target audience.
Some of the scenarios and multimedia content may be recreated according to the target culture.

Example:
  • Some graphic elements on images may be changed into more suitable or familiar.
  • Multimedia may be recreated in accordance with legal and cultural system of the target country.
  • Video may be recreated with the actors natively speaking the target audience language.
